New Activities for the 2023 SCWC

We pride ourselves in offering exciting opportunities for the attendees of the Southern Christian Writers Conference each year, and this year we've got some brand-new activities that will take place during the weekend.

As always, the SCWC will offer two keynote presentations (this year's keynote speakers are publishing icon and agent Bruce Barbour and Christy-award winning novelist Valerie Luesse), as well as 20+ workshops on a variety of writing topics.

Returning again are one-on-one consultations with agents, publishers, and other writing professionals. These sessions are included in the cost of registration, and will take place both in-person and virtually. (Once you've registered for the conference, you'll receive a follow-up email with details on how to sign up).

We'll also once again offer a book room for SCWC attendees to display and sell their books to fellow attendees. The book room will be limited this year to 30 tables, so sign up quickly if that's something you're interested in. (Each author will get half of a 6-foot table; you will be responsible for your own set up and for accepting payments; the book room space costs just $10.)

We're pleased for the third year now to offer a virtual version of the conference to those who cannot attend  in person for whatever reason. But this year's online conference will be bigger and better! Virtual access to the conference will be available via a private playlist on the SCWC YouTube channel. This will allow attendees to watch high-quality workshop videos at their convenience and on their own schedule. (Note that everyone signed up for in person attendance will also receive access to the online conference.)

Once again we'll be recognizing the winners of the SCWC Writing Awards during the conference's closing ceremonies. This is one of the highlights of our event each year, and we can't wait to recognize this year's winners. (Read the official rules HERE, and submissions are now open.)

Conference registration will also include meals and snacks throughout the weekend. A coffee bar sponsored by TAB Media will be open throughout the conference, and attendees will also be provided with snacks, dinner on Friday, breakfast on Saturday, and lunch on Saturday.

NEW this year...

We're excited to add a Thursday night activity for those who are local or who want to come a day early and enjoy special fellowship and share time. The Share and Critique Party will take place on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and will give you the opportunity to share a work-in-progress with other participants; your project will also be critiqued by a SCWC professional. Plus, you'll enjoy a popcorn party while we share! (This event will cost an additional $25.)

We'll be joined this year by podcasters Tiffany and Jason Norris, who will provide opportunities for SCWC attendees to sign up for on-air interviews about their Christian books. Their podcast--Ms McBookworm--primarily features Christian women who write fiction and have the goal of "telling God's bigger stories through our smaller ones." SCWC attendees will be able to sign up for an interview session when they arrive at the conference.

All SCWC attendees will have a special publishing opportunity to submit work to two books that will be published by SCWC Books in the Summer of 2023. These books will provide both fiction and nonfiction opportunities, and submission guidelines will be provided to attendees after they've registered.

(Stay tuned for further announcements on special activities. Registration for the 2023 SCWC opens on March 25.)
