Enter the 2026 SCWC Writing Awards
We look forward to recognizing our writers for their outstanding work this year!
One of the highlights of each year's Southern Christian Writers Conference is the announcement of the winners of the SCWC Writing Awards. They are awarded during the closing session of the conference, and the awards ceremony is a wonderful way to recognize the publishing accomplishments of our writers in the previous year.
** The 2026 SCWC is June 19-20 at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama. Keep up with all the updates and announcements via the SCWC Facebook group; note that registration for the conference opens on March 25.
The awards are given in the categories of magazine articles, newspaper articles, short fiction, poetry, letters to the editor, devotional, and blog posts.
Submissions for the 2026 SCWC Writing Awards are NOW OPEN; deadline for submission is June 1 (postmarked or emailed).
THE RULES FOR ENTERING
To enter, you must have attended at least one SCWC event in the past (either in-person or virtual) OR will be attending for the 2026 workshop (either in-person or virtual).
Works must have been PUBLISHED between June 8, 2025 and June 1, 2026.
You can submit multiple entries in the same category and also in multiple categories.
Magazine and newspaper articles can appear in either print or online magazines or newspapers.
You must also submit a $5 reading fee for EACH entry. Payment can be made with a check to the above address (SCWC, PO Box 3057, Hueytown AL 35023), by Venmo to @SCWC-Conference, by PayPal to scwritersconference@gmail.com, or by credit/debit card (let us know and we'll invoice you).
The deadline (postmark) for entering the contest is June 1, 2026.
The top three winners plus deserving honorable mentions will be announced during the closing session of the Southern Christian Writers Conference. This year's SCWC takes place on June 19-20 at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, Alabama. (Registration for the SCWC opens on March 25.)
Submissions are judged on writing quality and message. Judges include Southern Christian Writers Conference staff members and professionals in the respective categories.
First place winners receive a small cash prize, while second and third place winners and honorable mention awardees receive a framable certificate. All winners will have their pieces shared on the SCWC blog and also in articles published in The Alabama Baptist and other media outlets.

The publications can be either religious or secular and either printed or online. Blog posts can be published on any blog (your own, or someone else's).
To enter the contest send a photocopy of the entire work as it appeared in the publication and a photocopy of a page (such as the table of contents or cover) that shows the publication's title and date to the physical address below. If your entry was published online, please send a link to the publication to scwritersconference@gmail.com; make sure the online link also includes verification of publication date.
