“Writing for Lifeway Publications” with David Bennett

As Lifeway celebrates its 135th birthday, get in on the party. Publishing everything except novels and fiction, there's not much you need to know to get your foot in the door. This session is not for the overly impatient or easily disappointed.

“First Person: Writing from Your Personal Experiences” with Javacia Bowser

Participants will explore how journaling can serve as a powerful foundation for both fiction and nonfiction writing. This session will show writers how to mine their journal entries for compelling stories, transform personal moments into universal narratives, and overcome the fear of sharing their truth. Attendees will also learn practical techniques for crafting vivid, emotionally resonant personal narratives that connect with readers.

“Writing for Denominational Publications” with Dianna Cagle

Being able to pivot your writing will allow more flexibility with stories. Most denominations deal with the same issues and topics so you should be able to pitch the same ideas to a variety of denominations (ex. ways to deal with stress, how to choose a Bible or Bible study, etc.).

“Feature Stories that Shine” with Solomon Crenshaw

Award-winning newspaper and content writer Solomon Crenshaw will give his advice on writing feature stories that go to the next level. “Writing a good feature story is a lot like baking a cake. The ingredients you add are very important. So too are the ones you omit.”

“How Spiritual Gifts Shape your Words” with Shirley Crowder

Every Christ‑following writer has been uniquely equipped by the Holy Spirit, not only with abilities, talents, skills, and imagination, but with spiritual gifts that shape the very way we communicate God’s truth. The Gifted Pen invites writers to discover how their God‑given gifts influence their voice, message, tone, and approach to their ministry of words. Whether you write devotionals, fiction, articles, Bible studies, poetry, or memoir, your spiritual gifts quietly guide the way you see the world, the themes you return to, and the needs you feel compelled to address.

In this practical and encouraging workshop, participants will explore the biblical foundations of spiritual gifts, identify the gifts most evident in their writing, and learn how to steward those gifts with clarity, humility, and joy. Through Scripture, reflection, and guided exercises, writers will gain fresh insight into how the Spirit works through their unique design to build up the body of Christ. You’ll leave with renewed confidence, a deeper sense of calling, and a clearer understanding of how the Spirit shapes the words you offer to the world.
